The Wider Community

We are keen to support not only our partner schools but the wider communities of which they are a part.
Bromley by Bow Centre
The Bromley by Bow Centre, a few minutes away from Bow School, is an innovative community organisation working in what is one of the most deprived wards in the UK. Each week the centre supports families, young people and adults of all ages in learning new skills, improving their health and wellbeing, finding employment and developing the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives. At the core of Bromley by Bow's thinking is its belief in people and their capacity to achieve amazing things.
Rothschild volunteers have over the past two years worked particularly with Working Wonders - a programme which enables vulnerable adults with learning difficulties, physical or mental health problems and isolated elders to participate in creative arts, horticultural therapy and healthy lifestyles activities - and the Young Parents' Group, planning and supporting Christmas events and summer tea parties.
The Bromley by Bow Centre is a social enterprise and provides a range of commercial services, some directly and others through the many social businesses it has incubated, and using their services is one of the ways in which we're able to help. In the past two years we have commissioned the centre's artistic director to work with us on a number of projects including an self-portrait competition with Bow School, design of a mural for volunteers to paint at Stepney City Farm (see below) and creation of our own in-house community art space which showcases work from the centre and our partner schools. In addition we have worked with one of the centre's horticultural enterprises, Green Dreams, on the design and running of a large-scale volunteering day at the farm.

Stepney City Farm
Stepney City Farm is a community based and entirely volunteer run city farm and rural crafts centre in the heart of Stepney Green. For nearly thirty years the farm has been dedicated to providing local residents with a chance to experience a taste of rural life first hand.
Rothschild regularly sends volunteer teams to help with upkeep and development - from constructing chicken sheds and installing pig arks, to planting trees and redecorating the office facilities - and is represented on the board of trustees.
